Meet Our Heritage Breed Pigs
Lakeshire Farm
# Meet Our Heritage Breed Pigs
Not all pigs are created equal. At Lakeshire Farm, we raise heritage breed pigs that were nearly lost to industrial farming.
## What Are Heritage Breeds?
Heritage breeds are traditional livestock breeds that were raised before industrial agriculture took over. They're genetically diverse, hardy, and well-suited to pasture life.
## Our Breeds
We primarily raise:
- **Berkshire**: Known for exceptional marbling and flavor
- **Tamworth**: Lean, athletic, and great foragers
- **Large Black**: Docile, hardy, and excellent mothers
## Why Heritage Breeds?
Industrial pigs have been bred for one thing: fast growth in confinement. Heritage breeds, on the other hand, thrive on pasture and produce pork with:
- Better flavor and texture
- More marbling
- Higher omega-3 content
- Superior fat quality
## Life on Pasture
Our pigs live outdoors with access to shelter, plenty of space to root and forage, and a natural diet. They're curious, intelligent animals that deserve a good life—and that good life produces incredible pork.
Next time you enjoy bacon or pork chops from Lakeshire Farm, you're tasting the result of heritage genetics and ethical farming.
